Ukraine’s decision to halt the delivery of gas turbine engines to Russia has put back construction of two Gepard-class frigates (Project 11661) ordered by the People’s Army of Viet Nam (PAVN) Navy, resulting in a one-year delay for delivery of the two warships, in 2017 and 2018, Deputy Director of Zelenodolsk Shipyard Aleksander Karpov told TASS on 15 June.

The PAVN Navy ordered two Gepard-class frigates with anti-submarine equipment about two-and-a-half years ago, he added. “We normally executed contracts until Ukraine refused to supply the major gas turbine units,” said Karpov. “Therefore, the deadline was extended a year by mutual agreement.”
