Four sectional “Ermak” given into operation

Far Eastern Railway, a branch of RZD and a railway in Russia that crosses Primorsky Krai,Khabarovsk Krai, Amur Oblast, Jewish Autonomous Oblast, and Yakutia, has started tests of 4ES5K “Ermak” locomotives, the world’s most powerful locomotives.

According to Alexei Bragin, an official spokesman of Far Eastern Railway, the new four-section locomotives are tested under the conditions of the complex natural landscape in the area of Smolyaninovo – Nakhodka, which is characterized by the presence of mining and saddle areas with steep slopes and places with small radius curves.

He has also added that after the completion of tests these locomotives will provide a unified movement of heavy trains weighing up to 7,100 tonnes in the Eastern range of RZD.

On September, 24 Berlin hosted an international conference “Railway Engineering: partnership of 1520 and 1435.”  

It was attended by representatives of the largest engineering companies in the world, shipping companies, infrastructure owners and operators of rolling stock. Delegation of JSC “Russian Railways” was headed by a senior vice president Valentin Gapanovich.  

Speaking at the panel discussion “High mechanical engineering in 1520 and 1435: the conditions of highly efficient co-operation,” Valentin Gapanovich told anout major projects for innovative development of “Russian Railways”, implemented by including the participation of foreign partners.  

According to him, JSC “Russian Railways” pays great attention to the harmonization of Russian and foreign standards. Projects for the development of new models of rolling stock and infrastructure.

“Kuznetsov” is Preparing for the Indian Tender

After participating in the Indian exhibition AeroIndia-2013 Samara Plant “Kuznetsov” in the consortium of Russian companies is preparing to tender for the supply of turbine-electric locomotives for the Indian Railways.

According to the company’s press service, at the exhibition in Indian city of Bangalore OJSC “Kuznetsov” presented a gas turbine locomotive with NK-361 power unit. According to preliminary information, in March the Indian party expects to announce a tender with updated charasteristics of the engineering design.

Currently the plant conducts testing of the locomotive systems jointly with the Russian Railways. Mileage of the locomotive has already exceeded 5,000 kilometers. The first test sample of GT1-001 locomotive with the NK-361power unit, produced by “Kuznetsov”, was created in 2005. At present, the second engineering sample is under the production stage.
