The first batch of Yak-130 operational trainers was ferried to Armavir air base located in the southern part of Russia, RIA Novosti reports with reference to the representative of the press-service of Russian Ministry of Defense on Air Forces, Colonel Igor Klimov.

It was reported earlier that this year Armavir air base would take delivery of more than 20 Yak-130 jets. Today the air base operates 8 jets of the type.

“Acceptance of the five state-of-the-art aircraft was carried out at Irkutsk Aviation Plant and then the jets were ferried to their home base located near Armavir,” Klimov said.

For pilots it was the longest ferry flight ever: they covered a distance of over 5,5 thousand kilometers and made three intermediate stops in Novosibirsk, Chelyabinsk and Borisoglebsk in order to refuel the aircraft.

Russia and China signed a contract for delivery of S-400 air defense systems

Russia and China signed a contract for delivery of six divisions of S-400 air defense systems, Lenta.ru reports with reference to Strategy Page. Under the agreement PRC will pay around $500 million for each division. The contract also includes personnel training, deliveries of spare parts and additional missiles. The signing of the contract is yet to be confirmed.

Each division will comprise eight launchers (each having two missiles), command vehicle (command and control center), radar station and launch stations (contains 16 missiles each). Several divisions will be deployed on the shore from Taiwan’s side, the rest ones – from the side of Japan, Vietnam and South Korea.

It was reported in November 2014 that Russia and China signed contract for delivery of six divisions of S-400 systems. The deal was valued at $3 billion. It was reported that the agreement was signed in early autumn. Later the Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation dismissed the report claiming the “deal has not been approved yet”.

Russia’s Sarmat 100-ton ballistic missile may be test launched in 2016-2017

The 100-ton ballistic missile Sarmat may be test launched in one or 1.5 years after its drop tests that are planned for 2015, a Russian defense industry source told TASS on Thursday.

“If everything goes according to plan during the drop tests, if they pass successfully, then in a year or 1.5 years the missile will be test launched,” the source said.

According to the source, the drop tests check the missile’s separate stages. “This is done on a special stand to check the missile’s lift capacity,” he said. “It’s difficult to speak of the timeframe now, but it is usually done at the end of the year,” he added.

Four frigates of the project 22350 in the coming years will update the Russian Fleet, Vice-Chief of the Navy Rear Admiral Victor Bursuc said Thursday.

Lead ship Admiral Gorshkov conducted its first trials in November 2014. The ship’s manoeuvrability and vibration at different speeds and navigation, communications, and radar system performance were all checked. It is now preparing for the second phase of underway testing in the Baltic Sea at the end of January 2015.

Admiral Gorshkov-class vessels are 135 m in length, displace 4,500 tonnes, and have a reported top speed of 29 kt. They were designed for a reduced signature with a compact hull and superstructure made of composite materials.
