The testing of first An-148 intended for Russian Ministry of Defense (MoD) has been completed by VASO. The jet (tail number 61718) intended for the MoD performed its maiden flight on September 12th 2013 after a number of ground tests, press-service of VASO reports.
«The functionality of all the aircraft systems was checked during 6 flights. The first stage of the test program has been completed. According to the director of An-148 program at VASO, Igor Abramov, the flight testing has been completed successfully. The next stage of the testing will be started in early October; six flights will be performed in the network of pre-delivery tests», – the press-service noted.
This is the fourth aircraft assembled by VASO in 2013; it is a passenger aircraft seating 75 passengers. It is planned to manufacture two more An-148s this year: one of them will be delivered to the MoD and another one – to Federal Security Service (FSB).
“Uralvagonzavod” Scientific and Production Corporation has developed firefighting and rescue system on the basis of T-80 main battle tank. The information was provided at the exhibition of arms RAE-2013 in Nizhny Tagil by the deputy general director of the Corporation, Vyacheslav Khalitov.
“We have created this vehicle for a year almost on the basis of the T-80. In our view today it is a unique complex,” said Vyacheslav Khalitov.
Development of the firefighting system on the basis of T-80 was carried out under the order of the Ministry of Defense of Russia, which plans to use these vehicles for operation on burning ammunition depots. The advantage of this vehicle is the tank armor that can protect the crew from fragments of exploding shells. According to Khalitov the firefighting tank can operate “at a very high temperature.”
The Demonstration Program was always interesting for guests, participants and visitors of the International Exhibition “Interpolitex” because it is better to see the dynamics of special forces operations, the actual firing of various weapons and to submit yourself as the participant of a tank battle.
The Demonstration Program will be organized at the XVII International Exhibition of State Security Provision “Interpolitex – 2013» in October 26, 2013 from 10.00 to 14.00 at the polygon of the Geodesy Research Institute. The Programm show will include the demonstration of operational and combat capabilities of weapons and equipment and special tactical exercises of special units of Russian Ministry of Interior.
The Central Aerohydrodynamic Institute named after N.E. Zhukovsky (TsAGI) is developing a revolutionary civil aircraft, ITAR-TASS reports with reference to the Director General of TsAGI, Boris Aleshin.
“In the near future the civil aircraft will have a revolutionary aerodynamic configuration, – he said. – I am confident that aircraft with a “flying wing” configuration will be developed by 2025-2030. They will outmatch the existing liners by 50-60% in terms of economic efficiency”.
“We may obtain fantastic results by means of launching the production of composite components for them,” Boris Aleshin added.
According to him, the most significant effect may be obtained not only by implementing new technologies but also by affecting the process of upgrading the whole industry. “The airframers will have to carry out a massive technical re-equipping,” Aleshin said.
The Russian Armed Forces will have been armed with more than 80 percent of new weaponry by 2020, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu told Russian President Vladimir Putin at a meeting in the Kremlin on Monday before the draft budget for next three years is submitted in the parliament.
In his words, the Defense Ministry has finalized all provisions of the state armament program up to 2020, meanwhile, all parameters were kept in terms of quantity and deadlines.
The whole armament program was fully synchronized with the Finance Ministry and the Ministry of Industry and Trade. “So, we know today what should be done with the infrastructure over the deadlines of the delivery of weapons and military hardware; how many facilities we should build to maintain this military hardware and how many people we should educate; how many medical institutions and service housing we should build,” Shoigu said.
On the opening of exhibition of arms and ammunition, Russian Arms Expo-2013, in Nizhny Tagil Russian “Uralvagonzavod” jointly with the French company “Renault Truck Defence” demonstrated prototype of infantry fighting vehicle (IFV) of the future, the General Director of “Uralvagonzavod” Oleg Sienko has said.
“We have distributed our capabilities in the ratio of 50/50: the French party provided the transmission, engine, concept, fire control system, we – the weapons, including the possibility of using our components and assemblies,” said Sienko.
“Today we are seeing at the show the vehicle that will compete with those that are well represented in the international market,” said the General Director, stressing that presented prototype of IFV is “brilliant example of international partnership in the face of fierce global competition.”
On September 26, at the RAE 2013 IX International Weapons Exhibition, in presence of Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin, the Military Industrial Company JSC and Vneshekonombank signed a cooperation agreement regarding the establishment of a specialized technology center for the design and development of wheeled armor vehicles.
The 2.3-billion-ruble contract was signed for a term of 10 years by Dmitry Gimmelberg, Director General, Military Industrial Company JSC, and Anatoly Ballo, Deputy Chairman, Vneshekonombank.
The volume of exports of Russian ground weapons grew seven times in the space of ten years.
According Igor Sevestyanov, Deputy Director General of Rosoboronexport, ground weapons exports in 2000 amounted to about USD 200-250 million, ITAR-TASS reports.
“Statistics from 2012 show that the volume of Russian exports of ground weapons has increased by seven times,” Sevastiyanov emphasized during the Russian Arms Expo 2013.
Company representative also said that the export prospects for such weapons is also very optimistic.
“Our exports consist primarily of armored vehicles and artillery, as well as precision-guided weapons/air defense systems and anti-missile systems,” he said.

At the end of the presentation, a Peruvian mechanic and tank operator, who has operated T-55 tanks in the Peruvian Army, was invited to test-drive the T-90S. After a five-minute briefing, he was able to drive as if an expert.
Buran spacecraft is the great example of operation of space systems in different environments. We should resume the production of these vehicles, Vice Prime Minister, Dmitry Rogozin, said, RIA Novosti reports.
“The future aircraft will be capable of climbing to the stratosphere; our spacecraft are being operated in both environments. For example, Buran was ahead of its time, but in fact such vehicles will be developed in the 21st century, so regardless of whether we want it or not, we must resume the work in this area,” he said.
