Russian military-industrial sector started the upgrade of Ka-52 Alligator helicopters

Russian military-industrial sector is working on upgrade of avionics suite for the latest Russian Ka-52 helicopter, RIA Novosti reports with reference to Russian Helicopters Deputy CEO Andrei Shibitov.

“Upgrade of the avionics suite, including radar, is a part of Ka-52 program. The upgrade is in progress,” Shibitov said. The multi-role all-weather Ka-52 Alligator combat helicopter is the two-seat version of Ka-50 Black Shark attack helicopter. It is also powered by other engines, fitted with different equipment and has different shape of its nose.

Ka-52 is powered by two upgraded VK-2500 engines having a power of 2400 h.p. each. As for its nose, it includes two-seat cockpit with state-of-the-art avionics suite. The cockpit is fitted with ejection seats. Ka-52 may be used for a wide range of missions carried out under any lighting and weather conditions and it is able to use all the weapons used by Ka-50 vehicles. The helicopter is capable of destroying enemy tanks and low-speed aerial targets, carrying out surveillance and providing air support to the army.
