Russian anti-aircraft missile system “Antey-2500” staged in Egypt

Egypt has officially received the S-300BM , also known as Antey-2500 missile system from Russia, Russia Today reported according to the Russian Arms Industry Corporation Almaz-Antey.

Last September, the Russian business newspaper Vedomosti reported that the agency of defence-related technologies and services “Rosoboronexport” signed a $500 million deal with the Egyptian Ministry of Defence to provide Egypt with a S-300VM ‘Antey-2500′, a highly advanced air defence system, by the end of this year.

Russia and Egypt have signed arms contracts worth $3.5 billion, head of Russia’s Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation, Alexander Fomin, told RIA Novosti.

The S-300BM ‘Antey-2500′ is a Russian anti-ballistic missile, designed to defeat short and medium range ballistic missiles, aero-ballistic and cruise missiles, fixed-wing aircraft, as well as loitering ECM platforms and precision guided munitions.
