United Engine Corporation (UEC, part of Rostec State Corporation) is going to extend the service life of RD-33MK engine for MiG-29K/KUB fighters; the target service life is 1000 hours, RIA Novosti reported with reference to UEC CEO Vladislav Masalov.
“At present we are working on extending service life of RD-33MK bypass turbofan engines to 1000 hours,” Masalov said at Paris Air Show.
RD-33MK bypass turbofan engine with afterburner was developed by Klimov Company (part of UEC) and its mass production is being carried out by Chernyshev Moscow Machine-Building Enterprise. It was derived from RD-33 engine. RD-33MK differs from the basic RD-33 by increased thrust (+7%); addition of “emergency takeoff” mode; anti-corrosion protection of the engine’s flow path; addition of digital BARK-42 control system. RD-33MK is the basis for further improvement of engines for fighter aviation, noted at UEC’s website.
“United Engine Corporation (UEC, part of Rostec State Corporation) is the integrated company responsible for production of aircraft engines for military and civil aircraft, spacecraft, as well as gas turbine power plants used to generate electricity and heat energy, gas compressor units and marine gas turbine units.
