The first production-standard Ilyushin Il-112V transport aircraft is set to roll off the line at Voronezh Aircraft Plant in the first half of 2017, United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) announced on 10 August.
The announcement comes eight months after Russian state media disclosed that the defence ministry is to sign a production contract for the aircraft later in 2015, with two prototypes to be built in 2016.
With production of the assembly line now under way at the Voronezh Aircraft Plant, about 400 km south of Moscow, negotiations for a production contract for the twin-turboprop are now in their final stages, the plant’s CEO Dmitry Prishvin reportedly said.
While the Voronezh Aircraft Plant will lead production, the manufacture of some of the aircraft’s components will be shared with Aviakompozit, Aviastar-SP, Aviaagregat, and CAPO-Composite.
The Russian Air Force is expected to receive 62 Il-112V aircraft, with deliveries due to start in 2018.
