Brazilian MoD announces Pantsir procurement delay

Brazil’s procurement of the KBP Pantsir-S1 (SA-22 ‘Greyhound’) medium-range self-propelled air defence system will be delayed, Minister of Defence Jaques Wagner has announced.

According to Wagner, who was visiting Russia to represent Brazil in the 2015 Moscow Victory Day Parade on 9 May, the Pantsir-S1 is still required and Brazil has requested an official pricing and offer from Russia, but Wagner does not anticipate a contract signature in 2015 due to fiscal restrictions.

Brazil originally expected to sign a USD1 billion contract in 2013 for 12-18 Pantsir-S1s, composed of mixed missile and 30 mm gun systems on MAN 8×8 platforms.
