Russian armaments programme facing course correction, report states

Up to one third of Russia’s planned military procurement projects may have to be postponed or even cancelled, according to a report issued by the Moscow-based think tank, the Centre for the Analysis of Strategies and Technologies (CAST).

It expects that the current State Armaments Programme (SAP/GPV) 2010-2020 will have to undergo a course correction due to defects in the assumptions made during planning.

The GPV-2020 plan calls for spending roughly RUB23 trillion (USD45.5 billion) on modernising the Russian armed forces, which in the case of some weapon systems have not had a major influx of new military hardware for more than 20 years.
