Su-30MKI fighter operated by India is one of the world’s best jets in its class and it is the pride of Indian air forces, TASS reports.
Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Rajiv Pratap Rudy, expressed such opinion at the opening of the first India-Russia Youth Forum.
“India is proud to operate Su-30MKI, one of the best fighters in the world,” he noted.
Earlier the politician took part in the Aero India-2015 airshow held in Bangalore and performed flight onboard Su-30MKI, which lasted 40 minutes. The official (ex-minister of civil aviation) acted as a second pilot.
Rajiv Pratap Rudy is not the first Indian politician to perform flight onboard Su-30MKI fighter. In 2009 President Pratibha Patil also performed flight on Su-30MKI (flight duration was 20 minutes).
The Inidian air forces placed orders for a total of 272 Su-30MKI jets. Hindustan Aeronautics assembles the fighters in India under a license.
Since 2007 Russia delivered 50 assembled fighters of the type to India, after that 134 Su-30MKI jets were assembled in India. Indian air forces are going to form 14 Su-30MKI squadrons by 2018 (the total number of fighters operated in India will reach 272 ones).
