First Antey-2500 to be delivered to Egypt in 2016

Russia has started the “practical implementation” of a contract for the supply of Antey-2500 (also known as the S-300VM) surface-to-air missile systems to Egypt, the Interfax-AVN news agency reported on 5 March.

“Deliveries of auxiliary technological equipment have begun. During this year Egypt will receive missile launchers and the remaining equipment,” it cited a high-ranking source at the Russian Defence Ministry as saying.

The following day, the TASS news agency cited a source familiar with Russian military and technical co-operation as saying that the Russia will supply the Antey-2500 to Egypt before the end of the year under a contract worth more than USD1 billion.
